SP-B and SP-C Containing New Synthetic Surfactant for Treatment of Extremely Immature Lamb Lung

Figure 10

Lung inflammation.

Before surfactant treatment, lambs were ventilated for 15 min with limited PIP to 40 cmH2O that resulted in low VT of 5.3 ml/kg. Thus, extremely immature lungs with low compliance were not overstretched and lung inflammation was minimized. (A) Number of total cells, neutrophils, and monocytes in BALF were low for both groups. Although the inflammatory cells tended to be lower for CHF5633, they were not statistically different. (B) Expression of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, and TNFα mRNA were analyzed by RT-PCR. Although the mean value of IL-1β tended to be lower for the CHF5633 group, there were no statistical differences in IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, and TNFα mRNA between CHF5633 and Survanta groups.
