Lineage relationship of spinal cord derived NSCs.

LeX− NSCs derived from the spinal cord can give rise to LeX+ and LeX− NSCs. LeX− NSCs do not express markers of regional identity while LeX+ NSCs express markers indicative of spinal cord identity. LeX− cells derived from LeX+ cells are not able to generate new clonal neurospheres and are likely differentiated cells. It is not clear whether LeX− NSC must pass through a LeX expressing stage prior to differentiation.
