An Acidic Loop and Cognate Phosphorylation Sites Define a Molecular Switch That Modulates Ubiquitin Charging Activity in Cdc34-Like Enzymes

Mechanism of acidic loop activation by electrostatic repulsive effects.

An average structure from Cdc34UBC simulations is reported in which acidic residues (D104, D108, E109, D111 and E113) of the acidic loop, as well as S130 and catalytic C95, are shown. Acidic residues of the acidic loop come transiently close to the α-helix in which S130 is located.
