Entropy-Loading: Multi-Carrier Constellation-Shaping for Colored-SNR Optical Channels

Abstract

We propose multi-carrier entropy-loading as a capacity-approaching method for colored-SNR optical channels. A 400-Gb/s multi-carrier constellation-shaped 64-QAM system reveals >0.3 bits/symbol mutual information or >2 dB OSNR sensitivity advantage over single-carrier systems.
