Abstract: In order to study the seismic strengthening method of RC frame with weak story,quasi-static test of a RC frame strengthened by steel frame braces is carried out. The test model is designed and constructed based on an existing prototype building which has poor seismic resistant capacity. Three point loading history are carried out by using hybrid control method. The test phenomenon and hysteretic curve between shear force and story drift are obtained, the model initial stiffness and stiffness deterioration of each story are compared. Analysis results indicate that the initial stiffness and bearing capacity of weak story are improved after strengthened by steel frame braces and the capability of ductility and energy dissipation of each story are also increased. The failure mode of test model shows that inductile damage occurred in RC beam is due to the additional shear force produced by steel frame braces. The relationship between braces arrangement and structural failure mode should be noticed in future study.
