Qualitative and quantitative determination of inorganic phosphate in aqueous solution by Fe(Ⅲ)ion and sulfosalicylic acidChinese Full Text

PANG Hai-xia;School of Chemistry and Environment Science,Shanxi University of Technology;

Abstract: A new method of selective recognition of inorganic phosphate in aqueous solutionwas established based on Fe(Ⅲ)ion and sulfosalicylic acid.In the medium of HClO4 with pH≤2.5,a clear color change was observed from fuchsia to colorless upon addition of phosphate to the color system.However,no obvious color changes were observed on addition of other inorganic salts such as Cl-,Ac-, CO3 2-,SO4 2-and NO3-.As a result,PO4 3-,HPO4 2-and H2 PO4-was perceptible to recognition by naked eye.Beer’s law is obeyed in the range of 0.1~1mmol·L-1 for phosphate.The method can be used for the direct determination of phosphate in aqueous solution with satisfactory results.
