Abstract: Based on the classical mechanics theory and the finite element method, mechanical models of the hammers, bearings, connecting pieces and welds are established for the solution of the mechanical failure of the hammer type slab deburring machine in a steel mill. The total displacement of the hammer’s knife-edge along the radial direction of the rotor and the stress state of the deburrer are derived. The causes of the failure are found and some measures for improvements are proposed. The simulation results and the industrial applications indicate that the improved structure of the deburrer helps to reduce the equipment failure rate.
