OFDI and China’s Technology Innovation: A Study from Perspective of Heterogeneity of Host CountriesChinese Full Text

Abstract: Considering the heterogeneity of host countries, the paper analyzes the effect of OFDI on technological innovation in developing countries, ascribing this effect to comprising R＆D feedback effect and human capital incentive effect based on reverse technology spillovers. With the assistance of the international R＆D spillover model, the paper makes an empirical test using the provincial panel data of China from 2003 to 2011. The results show that OFDI has a weak positive effect on China’s technological innovation and only OFDI from developed host countries can bring China significant reverse technology spillovers. In general, this paper concludes that the R＆D incentive effect of OFDI is more obvious than its crowding-out effect and its human capital incentive effect is not significant.
