OFDI and China’s Technology Innovation: A Study from Perspective of Heterogeneity of Host CountriesChinese Full Text
LI Ping;SU Wen-zhe;
Abstract: Considering the heterogeneity of host countries, the paper analyzes the effect of OFDI on technological innovation in developing countries, ascribing this effect to comprising R&D feedback effect and human capital incentive effect based on reverse technology spillovers. With the assistance of the international R&D spillover model, the paper makes an empirical test using the provincial panel data of China from 2003 to 2011. The results show that OFDI has a weak positive effect on China’s technological innovation and only OFDI from developed host countries can bring China significant reverse technology spillovers. In general, this paper concludes that the R&D incentive effect of OFDI is more obvious than its crowding-out effect and its human capital incentive effect is not significant.
