Abstract: Objective To establish a feasible method of dose reconstruction with enamel EPR disimetry for medical diagnostic X-ray workers. Methods The usefulness of enamel for dosimetry results from its high content of hydroxyapatite.Carbonate impurities, which are incorporated into or attached to the surface of hydroxyapatite crystals during formation, are converted to CO-2 radical through absorption of ionizing radiation. The concentration of radicals increases with absorbed dose.According the concentration of radicals measured by EPR dosimetry method. The enamel dose of medical diagnostic X-ray workers was reconstructed. Results The method of electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR)spectroscopy for tooth enamel is applied to individual dose reconstruction for 14 Chinese medical diagnostic X-ray workers with their entry year before 1985.The enamel doses were ranged from 89 to 870 mGy.Conclusion The method is feasible in dose reconstruction for medical diagnostic X-ray workers.
