Abstract: Objective To observe the effect of electroacupuncture at Baihui(GV20) and Dazhui(GV14) in preventing post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD) in patients undergone major trauma. Method Sixty-eight subjects were randomized into an electroacupuncture group and a Western medication group to receive a 2-month intervention. The Essen Trauma Inventory(ETI) and Symptom Check List(SCL-90) were used for evaluation before and after intervention, as well as 3 months and 6 months after the intervention. Result The inner-group comparisons showed significant differences in comparing the results of before and after intervention, 3 months and 6 months after the intervention(P<0.05); generally speaking, the inter-group comparisons didn’t show significant differences(P>0.05), but the acupuncture group was better than the Western medication group in comparing the physical and depression scores(P<0.05). Conclusion The effect of electroacupuncture at Baihui(GV20) and Dazhui(GV14) in preventing PTSD is similar to that of medication, and the electroacupuncture group has few adverse effects and content compliance.
