Abstract: Plant identification is not only an important basis of botany research,but also is an important foundation for the study,education,production and management of agriculture,forestry,animal husbandry,industry,commerce,archaeology,inspection and quarantine and other areas.This paper made a systematic introduction of visual methods for plant identification based on shape,size,color,taste,composition,structure and texture,assisting visual methods for plant identification based on analysis for burning,spectrum,chromatography,mass spectrometry,flow cytometry,cell and genetic markers,and automatic plant identification method based on modern information techniques including computer,internet,photographing and remote sensing.Problems rising in plant identification methods was summarized.It pointed out that automatic plant identification method based on modern information technique integration would be a trend in future study,to avoid low level and repeated research on the techniques and methods of plant identification and to improve technique and method innovation for plant identification.
