Abstract: Objective To study the changes in inflammatory factors and markers of oxidative stress after acute glucose loading in patients with simple hyperlipidemia.Method Fifty-five patients with simple hyperlipidemia(HLP group) and 54 healthy persons(Con group) were investigated. All subjects underwent oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT).Serum inflammatory factors including C-reactive protein(CRP),tumour necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α),interleukin-6(IL-6),and markers of oxidative stress including malondialdehyde(MDA),superoxide dismutase(SOD),glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) were determined at fasting state and OGTT-2 h.Results At fasting state and OGTT-2 h,serum levels of CRP,TNF-α,IL-6 and MDA were increased, and serum levels of SOD and GSH-Px were decreased in HLP group(P<0.001 or P<0.05),as compared with Con group, respectively. For HLP subjects, serum levels of CRP,TNF-α and IL-6 at OGTT-2 h were increased(P<0.05),and serum levels of SOD and GSH-Px were decreased(P<0.001,P<0.05),as compared with fasting state. For healthy control subjects, serum level of IL-6 at OGTT-2 h was increased(P<0.05),and levels of MDA,SOD and GSH-Px were decreased(P<0.001,P<0.05),as compared with fasting state. Conclusion The inflammatory reaction and oxidative stress in patients with simple hyperlipidemia are further aggravated by acute glucose loading, which may play a important role in development of chronic diseases(such as atherosclerosis) caused by hyperlipidemia.
