Abstract: Nuclear transcription factor E2-related factor 2( Nrf2) is a key regulator in antioxidant defense response in host cells. Nrf2 shares in common a cis-acting enhancer sequence termed antioxidant response element( ARE) that includes antioxidant enzymes and phase Ⅱ detoxifying enzyme, which play an important role in cell protection. Oxidative stress is an important part of the pathogenic infection. Pathogen infection can activate Nrf2 / ARE signaling pathways to develop the product directly or by inducing host cells for reactive oxygen species( ROS),leading to a increasing expression of protective protein and protect the host cell from oxidative damage. The expression of Nrf2 has a cruicial relationship with pathogen infection, this article will review the Nrf2 / ARE pathways in the latest research of anti-pathogen infection.
