Abstract: Objective:To investigate the changes of platelet activation parameters under acute psychological stress and its correlation with age and gender, and analyze its possible mechanisms, female and male groups. The aim was to determine whether an acute laboratory psychological stress task produced platelet reactivity by using three haematologicaly markers: MPV, PDW and P-LCR in healthy participants and whether there is age or gender related differences. Methods: Fifty-four healthy volunteers were performed a psychological stress challenge. The blood samples were obtained and the blood platelet count(PLT), mean platelet volume(MPV),platelet distribution width(PDW) and platelet-large cell ratio(P-LCR) were detected and compared pre-stress and immediately post-stress prior to haematologyical analysis. Then these parameters were compared between middle-aged and elderly participants, or male and female participants. Results: The acute psychological stressor induced significant increase of MPV, PDW and P-LCR in healthy participants(P<0.05), but there was no significant difference between middle aged and elderly participants, or male and female participants(P<0.05). Conclusion: MPV, PDW and P-LCR were sensitively increased after acute lab psychological stress in healthy adults, which may had no correlation with the age and gender.
