Abstract: In order to explore the optimal condition for earthworm to grow and reproduce in campus kitchen waste, the four sets of vermicomposting experiments during 7 weeks were designed upon the life habits and physiological characteristics of earthworm Eisenia foetida under the pH value, moisture content and temperature relatively stable conditions. The weight and quantity of earthworm were weekly observed and recorded, and the daily weight gain and breeding ratio of earthworm were calculated. The experimental results showed that their growth and reproduction was best when six earthworms with single weight of 150 200 mg were added to the 120 g mixture of fresh kitchen waste and substrate soil(mass ratio 1∶ 6).Thus,from the biological perspective, this might be the optimum condition for the vermicomposting of kitchen waste.
