Abstract: AIM To analyze the binding capacity of serum IgM from healthy individuals and monoclonal natural antibodies to cholesterol.METHODS Levels of IgM reactive with cholesterol in healthy human sera at different ages(newborn babies, infants, adults and the aged) were detected by indirect ELISA and the binding of monoclonal natural antibody to cholesterol was detected by ELISA and FACS.RESULTS Cholesterol reactive IgM was found in the sera of cord blood and the levels of IgM in cord blood were significantly lower than those in the other three groups, but no significant difference was found in the levels in infant, adult and the aged groups.Monoclonal natural antibody 3B4 bound to cholesterol with a strong reactivity.CONCLUSION Cholesterol reactive natural antibodies naturally exist in healthy individuals, and monoclonal antibody 3B4 can bind to cholesterol, which made a foundation for further research on the role of natural antibodies in cholesterol metabolism.
