Abstract: AIM:To investigate the effect of calcitonin gene-related pe ptide(CGRP) on the vasoconstriction induced by arginine vasopressin(AVP). METHODS:The aortic vascular smooth muscle cell(VSMC) of rat was cultured to determine the cytosolic free Ca 2+ concentration ([Ca 2+ ] i) in the presence of CGRP and AVP. RESULTS:AVP increased [Ca 2+ ] i,which was signi ficant ly attenuated by CGRP. CONCLUSION:CGRP plays the inhibitory effect on AVP-induced vasoconstriction by confining increased [Ca 2+ ] i of VSMC.
