Abstract: AIM:To study the correlation between heart function and introlymphocytic free calcium concentration and the effect of Bisoprolol on them in congestive heart failure (CHF). METHODS:Forty patients with CHF were given conventional treatments. Among them, twenty five cases also took Bisoprolol 5 mg per day. The heart function were measured by echocardiography in all patients, simultaneously, the concentration of intralymphacytic free calcium (Ca2+] i) was measured by fluoresence spectrophotometer before and after three weeks treatment. As a contrast, fifteen normal individuals were examined. RESULTS:①Compared with normal control group, patients with CHF had higher Ca2+] i. ②After three weeks Bisoprolol administration, there were significant improvements in heart function and marked decrease in Ca2+] i. ③The improvements in heart function were positively related to the decrease in Ca2+] i. CONCLUSION:Bisoprolol can improve the heart function of the patients with CHF,the mechanism may be partly due to the inhibition of the increased sympathetic activity and reversion of the intracellular calcium overload in patients with CHF.
