Abstract: AIM:To investigate whether insulin stimulates the translocation of GLUT1 and glucose uptake in canine myocardium. METHODS:Physiological metabolic parameters were determined by autoanalyser and GLUT1 was studied by immunoblot analysis. RESULTS:Insulin increased GLUT1 significantly in sarcolemma of canine myocardium [(42±5)% vs (63±8)%, P <0.05],but decreased the GLUT1 content in intracellular membrane. And insulin also increased the myocardiol glucose uptake, as compared with the baseline. CONCLUSION:Insulin stimulation results in GLUT1 translocation and then increases glucose uptake in canine myocardium. Insulin helps to increase the uptake and utilization of myocardial glucose.
