Abstract: AIM:To study the changes of serum tumor necrosis factor(TNF) and interleukin 6 (IL 6) in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and their clinical significance. METHODS:The serum TNF and IL 6 in 45 patients with CHD and in 30 healthy controls were determined by using radioimmunoassay (RIA). RESULTS:The serum TNF and IL 6 levels in patients with CHD were markedly higher than those in the controls ( P <0.01),and especially those in patients with myocardial infarction were more obvious ( P <0.01). The serum TNF and IL 6 levels in myocardial infarction were much higher than those in myocardial ischemia ( P <0.01). In patients with myocardial infarction, the serum TNF and IL 6 levels in AMI patients were higher than those in OMI patients ( P <0.05). In myocardial ischemia patients, the serum TNF and IL 6 level at heart function stages ⅢⅣ, were higher than those at heart function stages ⅠⅡ ( P <0.01). The serum TNF level was obvious positively correlated with IL 6 ( r =0.73, P <0.01). CONCLUSION:The levels of serum TNf and IL 6 are closely related to the severity of CHD. The study has implied that TNF and IL 6 may contribute to the formation and progression of CHD.
