Abstract: AIM:To study the clinical characteristics of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in the different sexual elderly patients. METHODS:298 cases patients were comparatively analized between male (223 cases) and female (75 cases) from 1988 to 1998. RESULTS:The result shows that elderly female patients had a higher prevalence of hypertension (62.7%) and diabetes (34.7%) than that of male patients (41.3%,17.9%),whereas elderly male patients were more frequently smokers (58.3% vs 6.7%),patients with initial consulting time >24 h or unknown were more in elderly female group (64%) than that of male group (28.3%). The complications such as heart failure,cardiogenic shock and acute mortality were also more common in elderly female group (48%,25 3%,40%) than that of male group (27.4%,11.2%,22.4%). CONCLUSION: The severe complications and acute mortality in elderly female patients seem to more than that in male patients.
