Abstract: AIM:To study autonomic nerve regulator character in elderly patients with essential hypertension (EH) and coronary heart disease (CHD). METHODS:The heart rate variability (HRV) in 59 EH,54 CHD,38 EH+CHD patients and 34 healthy elderly subjects were investigated. RESULTS:Except the SDNN Index of EH there were significant difference between HRV in the patients with EH,CHD and healthy elderly subjects( P <0.05), There were much significant difference bwtween HRV in the patients with EH+CHD and healthy elderly subjects( P <0.01),but no significant difference between HRV in the patients with EH and CHD ( P >0.05). CONCLUSON:The autonomic never function of EH and CHD patients are damaged, and the EH+CHD patients is the most. The vagal hypoactivity and sympathetic hyperactivity were major causes of reduction of HRV in the elderly patients.
