Abstract: The right ventricular diastolic function of 55 children with bronchial asthma and 41 healthy children was determined by Doppler echocardiography. The result showed significant difference in the criteria of the right ventricular diastolic function between healthy and asthmatic children, in whom much decreased function was found in the more serious cases. Only a part of criteria in asthmatic children were significantly different between different age groups. It is suggested that the right ventricular diastolic function of children with bronchial asthma is abnormal, markedly decreasing with the advance of the disease, but the influence of age is not definite, and that Doppler echocardiography is worthy to be popularized as a simple and easy, noninvasive method for determination of cardiac function.
