Abstract:
At the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), the Special Collections and the Bibliographic Services departments collaborate to provide online access to the photographs, letters, diaries, oral histories, and posters in the library's Civil Rights in Mississippi Digital Archive. To create access to individual digitized items for materials traditionally cataloged only at the collection level, the libraries have simplified the cataloging of these items by producing Dublin Core metadata records and assigning post-coordinate subject headings. This article discusses the project workflow, recounts the choices made regarding authority work, and assesses the impact of supporting the digital archive records with PCC activity.
