Abstract

The influence of the gas inertia forces generated within the stabilising restrictor in capillary from has been discussed about the case of a laminar flow in the first report(1). In this paper, we investigated theoretically and experimentally the inertia effect generated within the capillary restricted part in the case of a turbulent flow. From comparison with the experiment, it is concluded that the influence on the dynamic characteristics should be considerable, and that the presented analysis yields good predictions of both the bearing stiffness and the damping coefficient in a wide range of designing conditions.
