ABSTRACT

Even if we were aware of what was going on in people’s central nervous systems, it is unlikely that we should cease to find a use for explaining their behaviour in terms of their conscious thoughts and feelings. Nor is it likely, in a case in which an inference drawn from one’s physical condition conflicted with one’s own awareness of one’s own experience, that one should not continue to treat this awareness as the better authority.
