ABSTRACT

Leaders offer a clear vision of the future that is desired for all involved; a clear mission, or reason for the expenditure of effort and sacrifice; and clear goals that serve to guide our activity while helping us measure the extent of our progress. Successful leadership doesn't stop with the creation of a vision. It involves the communication of insight through various methods, with various constituencies, in various settings. Dr. Francine Gaillour draws from a deep reservoir of training and experience when advising physicians on the nuances of clear communication. Authentic leaders create dialogue by asking effective questions that lead to enlighten and engage others. Some physicians maintain a strictly professional relationship with patients in the sense that they converse only about physical diagnoses and interventions. Great leadership flourishes because the surrounding support is as good, or even better than the leadership itself. Leadership looks for an environment in which there will be unification among physicians, administrators, and hospital staff.
