ABSTRACT

Breast milk is natural and best for the growth and development of newborn babies. Although breast milk is adequate to provide an optimum nutrient till the age of six months but after that it is not sufficient to sustain optimum growth and fulfill their nutritional requirements. Most technologies used in developing weaning foods are having their own drawbacks. Dry roasting, steaming, popping, malting, boiling and flaking are some common processing methods, which can be used to prepare weaning foods. Malted ragi flour is very nutritious and hence can be used in preparation of weaning foods, infant foods, geriatric food and medical food along with milk. Fermentation, germination and milling process can enhance sensory attributes of weaning foods. Most of the recent applications of nanotechnology are in the areas of electronics, medicine, pharmacy and materials science. Nanotechnology also offers exciting possibilities for detecting chemical, biological radiological and explosive agents, and for protecting lives from and neutralizing CBRE agents.
