ABSTRACT

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a system of devices having the computing capability provided with unique identifiers (UIDs), containing the ability of transferring data over a network having the advantage of no human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction, thus making it simpler for us to use and manage. IoT, the technology that consists of connection of billions of devices connected via the Internet for the purpose of communication and sharing data. It has made everything very convenient and manageable providing digital intelligence to perform real-time interaction. While blockchain is a technology that has provided a data ecosystem with enhanced safety keeping information secure that involves an immutable public ledger. It is the technology that enables automatic verification of transactions and information stored securely; hence, there is no need for intermediaries. These are basically the digital and mechanical machines in which the idea of having sensors and intelligence to basic objects, including an Internet-connected machine, is based on. IoT is now in its preliminary phase but has touched different application areas such as (a) patrolling robot for security, (b) health monitoring system, (c) traffic management system, (d) management system for babies, (e) management system for physically challenged, (f) house management system and (g) security system for female. Manufacturers are using sensors to transmit data and check the performance of their products. Also they can predict when their product might fail. This will really help them to program some measures so that suitable measures can be taken in the case of device failure. Also the data generated from the sensors can be used to provide better services and efficient management and recovery systems. In this chapter, we will be talking about different aspects of IoT, its application areas and its scope and future. In order to get better results and efficiency, introduction of IoT for entire supply chain, and not limiting it to individual companies will really help, which will not only provide better management of products but also real-time material delivery. Hence, we can conclude that the future is all about IoT.
