ABSTRACT

The indications for the use of superior oblique tendon spacers and the surgical outcomes were reviewed. 11 patients underwent this procedure (12 eyes), 5 for traumatic Brown Syndrome, 4 (5 eyes) for primary Brown Syndrome and 2 for superior oblique overaction. 6 patients (45%) reported improved symptoms following surgery. A good result was achieved for the treatment of superior oblique overaction (100%).There was moderate success for the treatment of primary Brown’s Syndrome (50%). Disappointing results were achieved for patients with traumatic Brown’s Syndrome (40%); the use of spacers for this condition has not been previously reported.
