ABSTRACT
Red soil is one kind of regional special residual soil with its own unique engineering geological properties, which is widely distributed in the south of Changjiang River in China. Based on the study of engineering geological properties of many kinds of red soil, the evaluation of the properties of swelling and shrinkage of red soil was done. The main reason for lower or higher strength of different red soil is determined by the type of free oxides, its state and the existing manner in the red soil. In this paper the value of subsoil bearing capacity of different red soil is studied.
