ABSTRACT

Risk Assessment (RA) is an effective tool in the prevention of risks to human health, because it allows identification of potential risks from toxic and carcinogenic substances in a fast, simple, and relatively inexpensive way. Thus, RA is broadly used to establish norms and measures for protecting human health and the environment for a range of professionals, including toxicologists and public health experts, researchers, risk assessors and regulators/policy makers. Anthropogenic or anthropic pollution is especially relevant in the urban environment because it involves most of the polluting activities and contains nearly half of the world’s population. Potential solutions to protect the health of citizens of Alcala de Henares could also include the implementation of the public health interventions and environmental policy regulations to minimise the release of As and Be in this city and surroundings, as well as decontamination/recovery techniques.
