Abstract:

This paper presents a novel interactive stereo vision telepresence system for use in broadband Internet-2 communication environments. An algorithm for virtual distance correction is deployed in this system which allows us to present a correct nominal depth impression of a remote environment to a local human operator. The correctness properties around the nominal depth are analyzed and an error function is derived. The efficacy of the distance correction measures is tested by evaluation experiments.
