2012, Gastrointestinal EndoscopyCitation Excerpt :Pancreatic TB is an important masquerader of pancreatic cancer, metastatic lymph-node enlargement, and pancreatic cystic lesions because of similar imaging appearance. The diagnosis of pancreatic TB often has been made at exploratory laparotomy.2,9,10,18 In our study, EUS-FNAC helped us in making a diagnosis of tuberculosis in 19 patients, and we could avoid invasive surgical procedures in these patients.
Distinctive Endoscopic Ultrasound Features of Isolated Pancreatic Tuberculosis and Requirements for Biliary Stenting
2012, Clinical Gastroenterology and HepatologyYield of EUS-guided FNA on the diagnosis of pancreatic/peripancreatic tuberculosis
2009, Gastrointestinal EndoscopyCitation Excerpt :We found that nonspecific abdominal pain was the most common symptom, although patients also presented with weight loss, anorexia, fever, jaundice, and night sweats. Because pancreatic/peripancreatic TB can easily be mistaken on imaging modalities for other pancreatic lesions, such as pancreatic cancer, metastatic lymph-node enlargement, or pancreatic cystic lesions, the diagnosis of pancreatic/peripancreatic TB has often been made at exploratory laparotomy.3,4,6,20 Thus, a high index of suspicion must be maintained to ensure prompt diagnosis and treatment, thereby decreasing morbidity and mortality.
