Modified Hexagonal Shaped Ultra-Wideband THz Antenna

Published:27 July 2023Publication History

ABSTRACT

A Modified Hexagon-shaped ultra-wideband THz antenna is designed with a 40μm polyimide substrate material which has a dielectric constant of 3.5 and dielectric loss tangent of 0.0027. Power from the source is coupled to the patch using a thin microstrip line and a quarter-wave transformer. The partial ground plane reduces the back radiations of the antenna and introduces additional reactance which is responsible for wideband response and reduces cross-polarization. This antenna provides ultrawideband impedance bandwidth (IMBW) more than 2 THz ranging from 0.34 THz to 2.4 THz (151%), a peak gain of 7.96 dBi, and maximum radiation efficiency of approximately 98%. Due to its compactness and ultra-wideband response, the proposed antenna can be used for spectroscopic detection and diagnosis, imaging system, sensing, biomedical imaging, and indoor wireless communication system.
