ABSTRACT
Size and shape analysis is one of the tasks in automated measurement of colon polyps using Computed Tomography Colonography (CTC) images. The research objective was to measure the smaller polyps using image processing techniques. This paper proposes a knowledge-based approach using a semi-automatic method of colon segmentation and morphological image processing methods. The retrospective study included 35 CTC scans for evaluation. The combined approach of analyzing the polyp from domain perspective and the skeletonization has given good results. It takes ~7 minutes for smaller polyp measurement in a CTC scan of 450-500 images using multithreading on a high-performance computer. The results were statistically tested at α=5% and the measurements were acceptable.

Interactive registration between supine and prone scans in computed tomography colonography using band-height images
In computed tomographic colonography (CTC), a patient is commonly scanned twice including supine and prone scans to improve the sensitivity of polyp detection. Typically, a radiologist must manually match the corresponding areas in the supine and prone ...
Computer-Aided polyp detection for laxative-free CT colonography
MICCAI'11: Proceedings of the Third international conference on Abdominal Imaging: computational and Clinical ApplicationsImage-based colon cleansing performed on fecal-tagged CT colonography (CTC) allows the laxative-free detection of colon polyps, unlike optical colonoscopy (OC), the preferred screening method. Compared to OC, CTC increases the patient comfort and ...
Segmentation and size measurement of polyps in CT colonography
MICCAI'05: Proceedings of the 8th international conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention - Volume Part IVirtual colonoscopy is a relatively new method for the detection of colonic polyps. Their size, which is measured from reformatted CT images, mainly determines diagnosis. We present an automatic method for measuring the polyp size. The method is based ...
