Advising patients about air travel

Abstract

Serious medical incidents are rare during commercial airline flights but any that occur may have to be managed without the help of a doctor, with limited equipment and in cramped conditions. Increasingly, doctors have to identify and advise people for whom air travel could present risks. Problems can often be anticipated and prevented. In this article we discuss how risks can be minimised by careful assessment and planning.
