NHS funding at serious risk from Brexit, think tank warns

The economic fallout from Britain’s vote to leave the European Union (EU) poses a risk to the future funding of the NHS, an analysis by healthcare think tank the Health Foundation has said.

In a briefing published this week,1 the organisation said that the financial pressure on the NHS in England was likely to increase following Brexit, and warned that the government and the country faced “tough decisions” over funding.

It came as the prime minister, David Cameron, rejected a call from the BMA’s chairman, Mark Porter, to invest an additional £350 million (€413m; $460m) a week into the NHS to fulfil a pledge made by Leave campaigners during the referendum debate.2
