Diversion and abuse of methylphenidate in light of new guidance

Psychostimulants were approved for use in children by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) in 2006, but, for the first time, methylphenidate, atomexetine, and dexamphetamine have now been recommended for adult pharmacotherapy.1 We want to endorse NICE’s advice: healthcare professionals should be aware of the potential of these drugs for misuse and diversion.
