Xylobotryum portentosum (Mont.) Pat. (Ascomycota): a second record from Brazil after a hundred years

Abstract
The genus Xylobotryum, erected in 1895 by Patouillard, contains two species that are very similar to each other. The type species, X. andinum Pat., seems to have a pantropical distribution, while X. portentosum (Mont.) Pat. is only known for South and Central America. Xylobotryum portentosum was first described from Guadeloupe and the first record from Brazil was a collection by A. Möller in 1901. During a review in Herbarium FLOR, a collection formerly identified as Xylaria sp. corresponds to the second record of X. portentosum from Brazil. The herbarium specimen was collected in the same locality where Möller collected. This article presents a redescription of X. portentosum, including macro- and microscopic drawings, LM and SEM pictures.
