The Genus Cymbidium in Korea
Jin Sil Lee, Byoung Hee Choi
Abstract
The genus Cymbidium (Orchidaceae) in Korea was reviewed based on mainly external and floral morphologies. With reference to the recent taxonomic treatments, five species - C. goeringii C. kanran, C. macrorhizon, C. lancifolium, C. ensifolium - were recognized in Korea and their taxonomic problems were discussed. The morphological characteristics of Korean C. ensifolium were firstly described in detail. In addition to the shape of leaf and phenology, the shapes of perianth and leaf margins were proved to be important diagnostic characters for identifying the species of Korean Cymbidium. On the basis of morphological and phenological characters, a key to the species of the genus in Korea was provided.
