Abstract

GLACIER plain bearings, and also DU bearings are well known. DU bearings (introduced five years ago), incorporate p.t.f.e. and require no lubrication at all. The latest material is Glacier DX which fills the gap between non‐lubricated and fully‐lubricated bearings. DX material is lubricated on assembly only for applications where further lubrication is difficult or impossible, and is also well adapted for use where lubrication is marginal, or uneven. Where some lubrication is possible, however, it has considerably extended life. This material is available as strip, bushes, hemispherical cups and thrust washers and is usually supplied with a regular pattern of surface indentations which form grease cups. It is machinable before or after installation (which DU is not).
