Abstract

This paper analyses the divide between the information professional and the community. It focuses on topics such as social exclusion and the bibliographical explosion; information and knowledge production; the social impact of public libraries; the role of the information specialist in a developing society; reading habits; critical reading education; and the role of public libraries in an information society.
