Abstract
We report the first observation of annihilation into states of positive parity, namely, and . The two states are observed in the and final states, respectively, in a data sample of collected by the BABAR experiment at the Positron-Electron Project II storage rings at energies near . The distributions of , where is the center-of-mass polar angle of the meson or the forward meson, suggest production by two-virtual-photon annihilation. We measure cross sections within the range of and .
