Abstract

The cross sections for production of the pentaquark baryon Ξ5+ from the reaction γpK0K0Ξ5+ and of Ξ5 from the reaction γnK+K+Ξ5 are evaluated in a hadronic model that includes their couplings to both ΣK¯ and ΣK¯*. Values for these coupling constants are determined from the empirical πNN(1710) and ρNN(1710) coupling constants by assuming that Ξ5+, Ξ5, and N(1710) belong to the same antidecuplet of spin 1∕2 and positive parity as the pentaquark Θ+. Introducing empirical form factors at strong interaction vertices, we obtain a cross section of about 0.030.6nb for the reaction γpK0K0Ξ5+ and about 0.10.6nb for the reaction γnK+K+Ξ5 at photon energy Eγ=4.5GeV, depending on the value of the coupling constant gK*ΣΞ5.
