Effects of nuclear deformation on Eu151,153(p,n)151,153Gd reactions

Abstract

Total cross sections for the Eu151,153(p,n)151,153Gd reactions have been measured between 5 and 12 MeV. We observe a significant (≤35%) enhancement of the cross sections for Eu153 relative to Eu151 and find that the enhancement below ∼10 MeV is due largely to the shape difference between Eu151(β2=0.13) and Eu153(β2=0.28).
