Parametrization of the coupled channels S matrix in the inelastic case

Abstract

An alternate way of introducing inelasticity parameters for two coupled elastic channels, such as the S and D waves in np scattering, has been devised. The present scheme is related to recent proposals of Bryan, of Klarsfeld, and of Melhem and Kermode. The existence of spurious solutions in the purely elastic case is demonstrated and a cure proposed.
