Abstract

Electron-stripping (or ionization) cross sections of charged ions by energetic proton impact are calculated. We use the binary-encounter-approximation model to describe collisions between an incident proton and electrons in a target ion and the Roothaan-Hartree-Fock method to obtain the electron-velocity distributions of the target ion. Results calculated for Ne ions are discussed and compared with experiments and other calculations in some cases.
