Matrix elements of one-body rank-one tensor operators exhibit seniority selection rules between states of a nuclear $j^n$ configuration. These are given and their influence on $\beta$ decays and $M1\mathrm{}$ transitions in the nuclear $1f_{\frac{7}{2}}$ shell is discussed.
