Abstract

Following earlier one-step calculations, we explore the contributions of multistep effects for the breakup of low energy 8B on 58Ni and 208Pb within a coupled discretized continuum channels (CDCC) formalism. The Coulomb multistep differential cross section is significantly reduced for all angles, the largest effect being the destructive interference of nuclear couplings. The nuclear peak, at around 80° in the one-step calculations for 58Ni, virtually disappears.
